How to make AquaGel fish food: mix, set and portion
AquaGel turns a dry pre-mix into a soft, portionable food. Here is how to make that format work in your fishroom.
What is AquaGel?
AquaGel is a powder you mix with hot water and allow to set into a jelly-like food. The formula supplies the food ingredients; added water gives you the prepared texture and weight. It is a prepared feed, not live food.
Choose the formula before mixing. Goldfish, grazing catfish, shrimp and axolotls have different requirements. Our selection guide helps you start in the right range.
Use the ratio on your pack.
Measure the powder and hot water according to the current product instructions. Recipes and recommended textures can differ, so do not replace a specific pack instruction with a ratio remembered from another product.
Use a suitable heat-safe container and stir thoroughly. Allow the gel to cool and set before cutting or feeding. Prepare a manageable batch rather than more than you can store and use as directed.
Understand the fivefold prepared yield.
At the standard preparation ratio, 1kg of AquaGel powder makes approximately 5kg of prepared food. The equivalent yield is about 500g from a 100g pack, or 1.5kg from a 300g pack. Follow the pack if a different texture is specified.
The extra weight is water. It does not multiply nutrients or make prepared gel directly comparable by weight with dry flakes. The practical value is a food you can prepare and divide into useful servings.
Portion for the animal, not the container.
Cut pieces that suit mouth size and feeding behaviour. Place a small portion where the intended animals can reach it, observe consumption and adjust. A shrimp colony and an axolotl do not need the same serving style.
Visible portions make leftovers easier to monitor, but gel does not remove the need for sensible feeding or water-quality care.
Store both forms correctly.
Keep dry pre-mix sealed and dry. Refrigerate prepared gel and follow your pack’s stated storage period. Do not keep a batch simply because an older online instruction allowed a longer period; discard spoiled food.
