Feeding fish for breeding: the Breeder’s Blend story

Why a breeding formula existed in the first place.

Our founder developed Breeder’s Blend while breeding African cichlids commercially. Other breeders wanted to try the food and reported successes of their own. That practical background remains part of the formula’s identity.

It is an experience-led story, not a promise that a particular food will trigger spawning. Read the success stories with that distinction in mind.

A varied recipe for a considered routine.

Australian salmon, Atlantic krill, earthworm, black soldier fly, mealworm, cricket and green-lipped mussels form the animal-ingredient side. Vegetables, algae and banana give the formula its broader character.

The goal is to provide a suitable food as part of conditioning. A larger serving is not automatically better conditioning, and an ingredient list cannot replace species-specific knowledge.

Keep an observation record.

Note the species, age or maturity where known, feeding amounts, body condition and behaviour. Record changes in water conditions and compatibility alongside any change of food.

That context helps you learn from a success and share a useful account with other keepers. A spawning event after a food change does not, by itself, isolate food as the cause.

Plan for what comes next.

If breeding succeeds, have a species-appropriate fry feeding plan. Parent food and first food for tiny fry can be different requirements.
